Outplacement Services

Redundancies are often painful for all parties but often a necessary part of people planning.  Sometimes strategic but often unavoidable, we can help take the pain of redundancy away by providing guidance to those involved in the process. We can:

  • Provide market insight to provide up to date market knowledge to the affected parties;
  • Design CV’s, provide interview coaching and mentoring through the job search process; and
  • Improve confidence and highlight the transferable skills of those made redundant.

Unlike other outplacement services, we can uniquely offer temporary or permanent jobs that can help them out quickly. We feel this proactive support, through a potentially very difficult time for all concerned, leaves the employee less likely to be disgruntled, and projects the positive image that a responsible employer would want.  Overall you would benefit from:

  • Increased support to those conducting the redundancies;
  • Increased support to those being made redundant;
  • Improved morale of those still working with the business after redundancies have been made;
  • Positive company image; and
  • Core values of your company embraced.

Campaign & Open Day Management

Our expertise is vast and uniquely we have a Consultant dedicated to each division of the construction world with a temporary and permanent counterpart.  As a result of this team approach, we are well set up to conduct high volume recruitment and coordinate campaigns to attract the right people to you. Examples of where this might be relevant:

  • Awarded a high-value project
  • Acquired a firm or taken over a contract
  • Unexpected workload
  • Project award in a non-core location

Recruitment Advertising

Clients often tell us they’ll use us after they see what their advert brings…so why do we end up dealing with 9 out of 10 of these clients? When advertising directly you have to deal with every applicant and respond accordingly. In today’s market advertising campaigns can often generate a very mixed response, which turns into a timeous process for your business. Why does it take so long? Because often the client has underestimated the time to respond to the interested parties and not dedicated a resource to dealing with it.

There is no point advertising and only dealing with the responses you like the look of. Every candidate deserves a response or your brand is potentially damaged and job seekers are left disappointed.

Contract Scotland can remove the onerous process and present you only with CV’s which would be suitable for the position, saving time and money.

  • Reduced burden on internal resources;
  • Access to a wider market with advertising on a number of advertising forums to relevant parties;
  • Anonymity for sensitive roles where required; and
  • Shortlisting the candidates for interview whilst retaining all applications.

Psychometric Profiling

Thomas International, Belbin, Kenexa  - there are so many options out there all with a similar goal.  Psychometric testing and profiling can be very effective when creating a job role and trying to “test” a candidate’s real suitability for the role.  We can work with you to determine what system might be good for you and how to get the most out of it whilst keeping the job seeker engaged.  CS Executive has had particular success in directing the use of psychometric profiling for Operations and Commercial Director roles and is best utilised early in the selection process.

  • Ok, you’ve convinced me, how do I engage you to start looking for our new member of the team? And how much does it cost?

    Great, we’d be delighted to work with you. Please contact us by phone or email or go to the meet the team page to find your more appropriate consultant who will start working with you quickly.

    Costs will be discussed with your consultant – we are transparent with fees and remember that these don’t apply until we have sourced the right temp or permanent person for you, phew!

    You can also follow us on LinkedIn or Twitter for regular updates and also as a way of keeping up to date with construction news and employment trends.

  • Given the name, is it only Scotland you recruit for?

    In short, no!

    Contract Scotland is our core company and its original focus was on the supply of technical and professional staff to the construction market in Scotland. Over the last 26 years though we have diversified and added to our business model and have spread our wings to the rest of the UK and countries including Spain, Canada, New Zealand and Australia.

    Whilst the majority of our candidates are living in Scotland there is a large proportion seeking to relocate within the UK so for many employers we source them staff in England where they have relevant projects and offices. Conversely we have job seekers from London, Newcastle, Cardiff and so on who are working for us on a temporary basis and have introduced to local employers on a permanent basis.

    Essentially our expertise is in Scotland but we can mobilise, attract and retain job seekers and employers from all over the world.

  • What makes up the construction industry? We’re in Energy, do you recruit for us?

    The construction industry is wide and varied and yes, we source employers in the Energy sector.

    Wikipedia states that the construction industry is

    “In general, there are three sectors of construction: buildings, infrastructure and industrial. Building construction is usually further divided into residential and non residential (commercial/institutional). Infrastructure is often called heavy/highway, heavy civil or heavy engineering. It includes large public works, dams, bridges, highways, water/wastewater and utility distribution. Industrial includes refineries, process chemical, power generation, mills and manufacturing plants. There are other ways to break the industry into sectors or markets”

    At Contract Scotland we service:

    Mechanical and Electrical Engineering

    Process Engineering

    Local Authorities

    Specialist Sub Contractors

    Housing and Property

    And all professional staff associated to each sector.

  • How long does it take for you to find us people?

    This ultimately depends what you are looking for. Sometimes we have the perfect person who is skilled, eligibility checked, referenced and immediately available at our finger tips, other times we are required to do a very detailed search to source a very specific type of person who might be in high demand and short supply. This can be very time consuming but either way we like to create a plan and work to your timescales ensuring we keep you appraised of our efforts and understand expectations. As per our general ethos, we are transparent and operate with integrity ensuring that we’ll deliver when we say we will and your consultant will keep you appraised of timescales to keep your business moving.

  • Do you supply trades staff?

    Sorry, no. Whilst a by-product of our service is that we have access to a number of joiners, telehandlers, brickies and groundworkers, we’d be overstating our offering if we said we could cater for your every tradesman/woman. We have a small core of proven individuals who are suitably screened and trained that we have worked with for some time and we have payrolled certain candidates where it’s been necessary for a key employer.

  • We’d like to send one of our staff on your training courses, when are they held?

    We welcome any worker throughout Scotland to attend our training courses which are generally the SMSTS (5 day and befresher) and First Aid at Work. Having a training provision demonstrates our commitment to ensuring training and health and safety is in date.

    These courses are uniquely held in our training room in Stirling and at the weekends to prevent absence from site/duties.

    The courses are conducted by an independent trainer and have received superb feedback.
